Fanboyism

Fanboyism has been around since the dawn of time. It is the syndrome wherewith an individual or group of individuals feels loyalty to a certain object, product or service. In a capitalist environment, fanboyism will become  dangerously prominent because of the large increase in products and services. A fanboy will fight to protect his "side" usually verbally, but occasionally physically, against any insult.Fanboys will consistently critic other "contesting" things and defend their own under any circumstances. It is next to impossible to convince a fanboy of his/her error (if he/she is fighting a losing battle) because:

  • Any critic of his the object of his fanboyism will enrage them, even if it is reasonable;
  • His/her anger will blind him/her to reason;
  • Fanboys will continually dispute facts and logical arguments;
  • Fanboys will repeatedly state the same simplistic and/or already disproved arguments and evidences relentlessly (trolling).

But what, we must ask ourselves, Is the purpose of fanboyism? Let us take video games as an example, seeing as they are the fanboyist domain I know the most about. You have your X-Box junkies, your Nintendo nerds, your PC "legits" (or whatever they call themselves now) and your PlayStation poppers. None of these groups are gamers. they are "consolers". They will play one console and one console only, which rather defeats the purpose of gaming. the whole idea of video-games is to have fun playing any console, not to waste your life yelling at people because they don't worship your system. I play the system that has the games I want to play, not the hardware I want to play them on. I will pick up any game controller happily- (that is, unless the game disagrees with me.) It isn't  "fun" to treat one console like a deity and all others like a- well. You know. Dirty thing. I'll let you imagine. The moral of the story is if you can't be nice, shut up. your thing isn't always better. In fact, pretty much everything has disadvantages. Suck it up.
